Our physicians are specialists in the treatment of lower extremity issues. They are both board certified orthopedic surgeons who sub-specialized in the treatment of foot and ankle conditions. This includes all problems of the lower extremity from the knee down. Their approach to care ranes from non-operative care to operative reconstruction with the goal of maximizing the patient's ability to return to all of their activities.
ANKLE FRACTURES:
Ankle fractures are complex injuries that require a wide ranging approach based on the highly variable configuration of these fractures. Our physicians are well versed in the non-operative and operative management of these fractures having taken care of thousands of ankle fractures over their careers. Our approach centers on the maintenance and/or restoration of the normal anatomy of the ankle in order to get patients back to their active lifestyles.


COMPLEX RECONSTRUCTION AND LIMB LENGTHENING:
When traumatic or surgical events go wrong, patients commonly end up with problems that are more difficult to treat. These include:
- Failed fusions
- Failed ankle replacements
- Post-traumatic deformities
- Bone loss or leg length issues

Our physicians are trained in the treatment of these more complicated orthopedic problems and are commonly referred patients by other orthopedic surgeon in town for higher level care.


ARTHRITIS OF THE FOOT:
A source of chronic and constant pain, arthritis of the foot comes in many different flavors. Our physicians are experts in the care of hindfoot and midfoot arthritis. Although most patients with arthritis of the foot joints typically choose surgical intervention, out approach typically starts with shoe wear modifications and orthotics (shoe inserts).
FOOT FRACTURES:
Fractures of the foot commonly lead to limited motion of the joints and post-traumatic arthritis. Our physicians have taken care of a wide range of fractures of the foot and are experts in the care of:
- Calcaneus fractures
- Talus fractures
- Navicular fractures
- Lisfranc fracture dislocations

Our goal is to get our patients back to their pre-injury level of activities.


ADVANCING FOOT AND ANKLE CARE:

Our physicians are interested in the improvement and advancement of our specialty. As such, they are involved in studies, consult for orthopedic implant companies and are involved in the development of techniques and implants for the care of foot and ankle conditions. Both Drs. Ebert and Cosculluela are actively involved in medical education with resident and medical student training. They are also involved in our American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society and are commonly asked to participate in educational courses, publications and presentations.


BUNIONS AND HAMMERTOES:
Pain and deformities of the toes are common. These most commonly arise from shoe wear choices, but can also be related to injury to the supporting structures/ligaments of the toes. Regardless of the cause, our physicians are well trained in:
- Simple bunionectomies
- Percutaneous bunionectomy
- Lapidus bunionectomies
- Lapiplasty
- Hammertoe correction
- Repair of the plantar plate
- Correction of the cross-over toe
- Fusion of the big toe for arthritis
SPORTS MEDICINE:
Whether you are coming in for evaluation of an ankle sprain or have chronic pain resulting from a cartilage lesion in the ankle, our physicians are well trained in the treatment of all cartilage and ligamentous injuries to the foot and ankle. This includes:
- Treatment of ankle sprains
- Treatment of Achilles tendonitis
- Treatment of peroneal tendonitis
- Ligament reconstructions of the foot and ankle
- Repair of Achilles tendon ruptures
- Tendon transfers about the foot and ankle
- Ankle arthroscopy
- Microfracture of osteochondral lesions
- Osteochondral allograft transplantation

ANKLE REPLACEMENT/FUSION:
Ankle replacement has become the go-to treatment in the care of arthritis of the ankle joint. Over the years, our techniques have improved and have become more reproducible. In addition, there are many implant options that allow us to properly address the arthritis to maximize the life of the replacement. Our physicians are well versed and certified in the different techniques and implants that are currently available.


PHYSICAL THERAPY:
Our physicians have worked closely with certified physical therapist to develop evidence-based protocols to get our patients moving. Protocols are available for:
- Ankle sprains
- Ankle fractures
- Calcaneus fractures
- Ankle replacement
- Achilles tendonitis/Achilles tendon repair
- Peroneal tendonitis/reconstruction
- Ankle ligament reconstruction

In addition to performing a thorough history and physical examination, we will obtain new radiographs of the foot and/or ankle during your visit. If radiographs have already been done, our physicians will review those radiographs and any additional studies - MRI, CT, bone scans, etc - that are available through our PACS access to local facilities. We also offer durable medical equipment - braces, boots, OTC casts - at the office. We have relationships with local orthotic and prosthetic shops for those who need more specialized bracing and orthotic care. Additional services include diagnostic and therapeutic injections with steroids, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and other stem cell preparations.
